Midwest Regional Ballet Summer Camps 2024: Train with Former Principal Dancers in an Intensive Two-Week Program

For two weeks this summer, the studios at Midwest Regional Ballet will fill with the sound of live piano accompaniment, the precise correction of a former American Ballet Theatre soloist, and the final applause of a fully produced showcase. Since 2008, Midwest Regional Ballet has trained young dancers through a rigorous, supportive methodology that emphasizes technical precision, artistic expression, and long-term physical health. Our 2024 Summer Camps offer dancers aged 6–18 the opportunity to train at a pre-professional level—regardless of where they currently study.

Why Midwest Regional Ballet?

Our faculty brings 60+ combined years of professional company experience to the studio. This summer's lead instructors include Margaret Chen, former soloist with American Ballet Theatre, and David Okonkwo, rehearsal director for Dance Theatre of Harlem. Their teaching draws directly from the traditions of Balanchine and Vaganova, adapted for the developing body.

Our alumni have gone on to trainee programs at Boston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and Cincinnati Ballet, among others. But whether your dancer dreams of a professional career or simply wants to return to fall classes with measurable technical growth, our camps are designed to meet them where they are.

"My daughter's alignment and confidence changed visibly in ten days. The faculty treated her like a serious artist from day one."
Rebecca T., parent of 2023 Intermediate Camp student

Beginner's Ballet Camp

Young dancers build proper alignment, coordination, and classroom etiquette through structured barre and center work. By the end of the session, students perform a short group piece in our final showcase and leave with a personalized technical goal for the year ahead.

Intermediate Ballet Camp

This two-week intensive deepens classical training with pre-pointe conditioning, character dance, and introductory variations. Students receive written feedback on strengths and targeted areas for growth, plus daily seminars in dance history and injury prevention.

Advanced Ballet Camp

Designed for dancers with multiple years of pointe experience, this program replicates a professional company schedule: morning technique class, afternoon repertoire and contemporary workshops, and evening rehearsals. The session culminates in a full-studio showcase featuring classical excerpts and original choreography, performed with professional lighting and costuming in our black-box theater.

Beyond the Barre: A Complete Dancer Education

Our summer programming extends well beyond daily technique class. Each camp includes:

  • Injury-prevention workshops led by a sports medicine physical therapist specializing in adolescent dancers
  • Costume and production seminars with our resident wardrobe director
  • Collaborative choreography labs where students create and peer-review original phrases
  • Daily live musical accompaniment to develop rhythmic sensitivity and phrasing
  • A final showcase open to family, friends, and local school directors
