Breakdancing, also known as breaking, b-boying, or b-girling, is a dynamic and acrobatic style of street dance that originated in the Bronx borough of New York City in the 1970s. It is characterized by its athletic movements, intricate footwork, and improvisational style.
Breakdancing emerged as part of the hip hop culture, which also includes elements such as graffiti art, DJing, and MCing (rapping). It was initially danced to funk and breakbeat music, with DJs looping and mixing drum breaks to create a rhythmic foundation for dancers to showcase their moves.
