As Vredenburgh City shakes off spring's last cool evenings and the sidewalks stay busy past sunset, the local swing scene is heating up. Whether you are stepping onto the floor for the first time or refining your aerials, three studios stand out for their summer 2024 programming.
The studios below were selected based on instructor credentials, community reviews, range of summer offerings, and longevity in the Vredenburgh City dance community.

The Jitterbug Joint
Best for: Dancers who want historical authenticity with a performance track.
The Jitterbug Joint has occupied its second-floor space at 417 Mercer Street since 2014, and the studio's walls still display vintage posters from the swing era. Co-founder Marcus Chen leads the advanced performance troupe, which competes regionally and closes out the Vredenburgh Arts Festival each August.
Classes range from absolute-beginner six-count basics to invitation-only aerials workshops. Their signature "Roots & Grooves" series traces Lindy Hop from 1930s Harlem to contemporary West Coast Swing—expect homework that includes listening to Basie and watching Hellzapoppin' clips.

Swing City Studio
Best for: Dancers who prioritize social connection and festival energy.
If you want a partner rotation and a post-class outing to the nearest vinyl bar, Swing City Studio is your hub. The studio built its reputation on an explicit no-partner-required policy and gender-neutral role instruction. Their Saturday night socials regularly draw 80–100 dancers, with live bands on the first Saturday of each month.
This July, the studio hosts its annual Summer Swing Fest—a three-day workshop and dance party bringing in international guest instructors Frida Segerdahl (Sweden) and Remy Kouakou Kouame (France). Single-evening social passes are available if you skip the classes.

The Lindy Loft
Best for: Couples or solo dancers seeking individualized instruction in an intimate setting.
The Lindy Loft operates out of a converted textile loft on Kensington Row, with original brick walls and a ceiling-high mirror that makes even small classes feel spacious. Class caps are strictly enforced at eight students, and private lessons account for roughly half the studio's bookings.
Owner Diana Okonkwo, a former competitive ballroom dancer who switched to Lindy Hop in 2011, structures private lessons around each student's movement background. Wedding first dances are a specialty here, as are focused technique repairs for experienced dancers stuck on a particular move.

How to Choose
- Start with socials if you're nervous. Swing City Studio's drop-in culture and rotations mean you never dance with the same person for more than two minutes.
- Commit to an intensive if you're serious. The Jitterbug Joint's three-week program will advance you faster than a semester of casual classes.
- Book private if you have a deadline. Whether it's a wedding, an audition, or a stubborn bad habit, The Lindy Loft's personalized pacing pays
