Phil Mickelson brought unexpected energy to Nashville this week, trading his signature golf swing for dance moves that quickly caught fans' attention.
The six-time major champion, who turned 54 in June, was filmed dancing outside Honky Tonk Central on Lower Broadway on Monday evening. The video, which Mickelson posted to his Instagram account, shows him attempting a series of moves to a live country band playing inside the venue.
By Tuesday morning, the clip had accumulated over 500,000 views and thousands of comments from followers alternately amused and impressed by the display.
"Never thought I'd see Lefty two-stepping on Broadway," Twitter user @GolfFanMike posted Monday night, sharing a screenshot of the video. "The man's having more fun than the rest of us combined."
Another fan, Instagram commenter @NashvilleGolfWeekly, wrote: "Phil's footwork needs some practice, but his enthusiasm is undefeated."
The moment arrives as Mickelson prepares to compete in the 2024 LIV Golf Nashville tournament at The Grove, scheduled to begin Friday. Player obligations and promotional appearances brought several LIV competitors to downtown Nashville throughout the week.
Mickelson has embraced a more public-facing persona since joining LIV Golf in 2022, regularly posting behind-the-scenes content from tournaments and travel destinations. This latest video continues that approach, offering fans an unscripted glimpse of the Hall of Famer away from competitive pressure.
Whether the Broadway interlude translates to on-course performance remains to be seen. Mickelson has struggled with consistency in recent LIV seasons, finishing outside the top twenty in his last three starts.
Tournament play begins Friday morning with shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. CT.
