Legoland New York Resort will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest disco dance party on Saturday, July 15, requiring hundreds of participants to dance simultaneously at its Goshen, New York location.
The resort aims to gather more than 1,000 people on a single dance floor to surpass the existing record, according to event organizers. Guinness World Records adjudicators will be on site to verify the attempt, which kicks off at 2:00 p.m. and requires participants to maintain continuous dancing for a minimum of five minutes.
"We wanted to create something that brings families together in a way that's joyful, a little nostalgic, and unmistakably fun," said Stephanie Johnson, director of marketing at Legoland New York Resort. "Disco crosses generations—parents remember it from their childhoods, and kids love the energy and the costumes."
What to Expect at the Record Attempt
The resort's central plaza will transform into a 1970s-style discotheque, complete with a 16-foot mirrored disco ball, synchronized LED light arrays, and a professional sound system. A DJ from New York City's Hudson Valley region will spin era-appropriate tracks, including classics from Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, and Chic.
Participants will receive complimentary disco-themed accessories upon entry—think oversized sunglasses, metallic bead necklaces, and temporary glitter tattoos. Guests are also encouraged to arrive in their own retro-inspired outfits, with prizes awarded for most creative costumes in adult, child, and family categories.
The event is structured as a ticketed add-on to standard park admission, meaning record-attempt participants must hold valid entry for July 15.
How the Record Works
Guinness World Records defines the "largest disco dance" as the greatest number of people dancing simultaneously in a single, contiguous space while performing recognizable disco-style movements. The current record stands at 598 participants, set at a 2019 event in Manchester, UK.
Legoland's attempt will require all participants to remain within a marked 100-foot-by-100-foot dance floor and perform core disco steps—including the hustle, the point, and basic four-count side steps—for the full five-minute duration. Two independent counters and video documentation will supplement the official adjudicator's verification.
Summer Season Context
The disco party caps a season of expansions at the 150-acre resort, which opened its Dragon Coaster in late May. The medieval-themed steel coaster features a "wing" design that positions riders on either side of the track rather than above it, creating a sensation of unsupported flight.
How to Attend
Tickets for the record attempt are $25 for adults and teenagers (ages 13+), $15 for children ages 3–12, and free for children under 3 with a paid adult admission. Standard park admission is required separately and costs $89 at the gate, with online discounts available.
Advance purchase for the disco event is strongly recommended and available at legoland.com/new-york/disco-record. A limited block of day-of tickets—approximately 200—will be released at the Guest Services window at 10:00 a.m. on July 15 if the event has not reached its 1,500-person capacity.
All ages are welcome, though children under 14 must remain within arm's reach of a supervising adult throughout the attempt. Participants should arrive at the dance floor staging area by 1:15 p.m. for a mandatory 15-minute group rehearsal of the required steps.
