The Dance Masters: Itinerant Architects of Tradition
The 18th and 19th centuries brought the dance masters, traveling teachers who transformed scattered folk practice into codified technique. Operating under Penal Laws that suppressed Irish language and Catholic worship, these figures taught in hedgerows, barns, and crossroads—spaces beyond colonial surveillance.

The Gaelic League and the Double Edge of Preservation
