Step onto the floor this summer and leave with more than just memories. At Sombrillo's Jazz Dance Intensives, you'll master a polished 32-count routine, trace jazz's evolution from the 1920s to today, and train with instructors who've performed on Broadway and won international Lindy Hop titles. Whether you're building your first dance foundation or sharpening your professional edge, this is where technique meets transformation.
What You'll Learn
Our week-long intensives are built around progression, not fragmented drop-ins. Each day layers skill upon skill so that by Friday, you're performing work you couldn't have imagined on Monday.
The curriculum includes:
- Jazz fundamentals — isolations, syncopation, and the grounded athleticism that defines the form
- Historical styles — Charleston footwork, Lindy Hop partner dynamics, and classic theatrical jazz
- Contemporary fusion — how today's choreographers blend jazz vocabulary with modern and hip-hop influences
- Improvisation and composition — tools to build your own movement phrases and make spontaneous choices with confidence
Who It's For
We've designed three distinct levels so every dancer trains alongside peers who match their experience:
| Level | Best For | Prior Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation | Teens and adults new to formal dance | None required — just curiosity and comfortable shoes |
| Intermediate | Dancers with 2+ years of jazz, ballet, or modern training | Familiarity with basic terminology and across-the-floor work |
| Advanced | Pre-professionals, teachers, and working performers | Strong technique and the stamina for fast-paced choreography |
No matter your level, you'll train in a studio culture that values rigor, generosity, and the kind of feedback that actually moves you forward.
