A five-alarm fire tore through Baron's Gentlemen's Club in Stroudsburg early Monday morning, causing an estimated $800,000 in damage and collapsing portions of the roof. No injuries were reported, according to the Stroud Area Regional Police Department.
The fire was reported at approximately 2:15 a.m. at the club's location on West Main Street. Crews from three stations—Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, and Stroud Township—responded to the scene, said Fire Chief Sean Brown of the Stroudsburg Fire Department. Firefighters battled heavy flames and thick smoke for more than five hours before bringing the blaze under control at 7:30 a.m.
Extensive Damage, Uncertain Future
The building, which housed the club and a small attached office space, sustained severe structural damage. Brown confirmed that the roof partially collapsed and that the rear portion of the building is considered a total loss. The front facade remains standing but has been deemed unsafe by Monroe County building inspectors.
Baron's has operated at the West Main Street location for 12 years, employing approximately 25 people, including dancers, bartenders, security staff, and kitchen workers. The club also hosted live music and served food, making it a late-night destination in downtown Stroudsburg.
"We're looking at a significant loss here—not just for the business owner, but for the people who worked there," Brown said. "Right now, the building is not habitable, and it's going to be a long road back if they choose to rebuild."
Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Brown said investigators from the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit and the Monroe County Detectives Office were on scene Monday afternoon examining the origin point, which preliminary reports suggest may have started in the club's kitchen area.
"We have not ruled anything in or out at this stage," Brown said. "We'll know more once the structural assessment is complete and we can safely access the interior."
Community Reaction
News of the fire spread quickly on social media, with former patrons and employees posting memories and expressing concern for the staff. A Facebook group dedicated to Stroudsburg nightlife saw more than 200 comments by Monday evening.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by a former bartender to support displaced employees had raised $3,400 as of 6 p.m. Monday. The campaign organizer, Maria Delgado, who worked at Baron's from 2016 to 2019, said she started the fundraiser after receiving messages from current staff worried about lost wages.
"These are good people who need help right now," Delgado wrote on the fundraising page. "Anything we can do to get them through the next few weeks matters."
Fire Safety Reminder
The Stroudsburg Fire Department used the incident to remind local business owners to review their fire suppression systems and emergency exit plans. Brown noted that while Baron's was equipped with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, the intensity of the blaze overwhelmed initial containment efforts.
"Fires move fast, especially in older buildings," Brown said. "We were fortunate no one was inside when this started. That's the most important thing."
