Practice this: Stand with your partner in closed position and pulse together for eight counts before moving. Feel your weight settling into the floor on the downbeat, releasing on the upbeat. Only then initiate your swingout.
The invisible lead test: Your lead should be felt, not seen. If your partner can detect tension in your arm before movement begins, you're overleading. Pulse creates energy; tension destroys it.
