Since 2012, Bellville Lyrical Academy has trained dancers who now perform with Houston Ballet II, Austin Contemporary Dance, and companies across the Southwest. Our 4,000-square-foot facility in downtown Bellville, Texas—just 45 minutes northwest of Houston—houses three sprung-floor studios designed specifically for the demands of contemporary lyrical technique.
What Sets Our Training Apart
Lyrical dance demands what other styles only suggest: the athletic precision of ballet fused with the emotional rawness of modern dance. Our curriculum builds this duality deliberately.
Facility Specifications
- Harlequin sprung Marley floors in all three studios, engineered to reduce impact stress on growing and professional joints
- Motion-capture video analysis system for real-time technique correction and progression tracking
- Wireless Shure audio systems with studio-wide volume zoning
- Natural north-facing light in Studios A and B; blackout capability in Studio C for performance simulation
Faculty Credentials Our six-person teaching collective includes former dancers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Limón Dance Company. Three instructors hold certifications in the Limón technique; two are active choreographers for regional contemporary companies. Every faculty member continues professional development annually—most recently at the American Dance Festival and Bates Dance Festival.
Program Structure: Deliberate Progression, Not General Enrollment
We do not offer "something for everyone." We offer specific training for dancers committed to lyrical and contemporary forms.

Adult beginners are welcomed into our Tuesday and Thursday evening Foundations Plus sections, specifically structured for bodies with professional and life experience.
Measurable Outcomes
Our graduates have secured placement at:
- University of North Texas Dance Program
- Sam Houston State University (BFA Dance, partial scholarship)
- Houston Contemporary Dance Company (apprentice company)
- Regional commercial work for Houston-based film and television productions
In 2023, three pre-professional students received choreography commissions for the Texas Dance Improvisation Festival.
Community Without the Cliché
Dancers here do not join a "family." They join a working collective of peers who challenge technical assumptions and support rigorous artistic growth. Our quarterly studio showings—open to the public, never ticketed—provide performance experience without the pressure of recital production costs. Alumni return regularly to teach masterclasses; current students attend professional performances in Houston as a subsidized group.

We schedule prospective student evaluations by appointment every Tuesday evening and Saturday morning. Evaluations include a 30-minute technique assessment, facility tour, and program placement discussion with our director.
