Beaverdale Krump Scene 2024: A Practical Guide to Classes, Workshops, and Events

Beaverdale's Krump community has grown from a handful of street battles to a full-fledged dance ecosystem. In 2024, three studios, a major festival, and a dedicated retreat are anchoring the scene—but finding the right fit depends on what you're actually looking for. This guide breaks down where to train, what you'll pay, and what to expect when you walk in.

Where Krump Lives in Beaverdale Right Now

The dance didn't arrive here by accident. Around 2019, former Los Angeles crew members began settling in Beaverdale, bringing battle culture with them. Today, local jams regularly draw 100-plus spectators, and cross-studio collaborations are common. The result: Krump here is competitive but unusually collaborative.

"I came from ballet thinking I'd get judged," says Marco Delgado, 28, now a regular at Underground Movement Academy. "Instead, people were showing me chest pops during the water break."

Beaverdale Dance Collective: The Entry Point

BDC's beginner Krump program emphasizes fundamentals over flash. Instructors Jayson Reeves and Tina Okonkwo spend the first 15 minutes of every class on conditioning and terminology—stances, arm swings, chest pops—before building into short freestyles.

"We see a lot of people who think Krump is just aggression," Okonkwo says. "We slow it down so they find their own story in it."

The Monday-Wednesday schedule is consistent year-round, and the 10-class card never expires.

Rhythm & Fury Studio: Leveling Up

This is where technically focused dancers go to refine their craft. Rhythm & Fury's 2024 guest artist roster includes Big Mijo (March), Hurricane (June), and Tight Eyez alumni sessions planned for fall. Saturday intensives (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) cap at 20 participants and typically sell out within 48 hours of announcement.

The studio's sprung floors and mirrored main room make it the most professionally equipped space of the three—useful for dancers working on precise execution.

Underground Movement Academy: Stripped Down

UMA operates differently. No front desk, no packages, no mirrors. You pay cash at the door and train on concrete under exposed ductwork. The Wednesday-Friday sessions are structured like mini-battles: cypher warm-ups, technique drills, then 30–45 minutes of session work where dancers trade rounds in the center.

"It's not for everyone," says founder Darnell Vance. "If you need hand-holding, maybe start at BDC. If you want to feel what a real session is like, this is it."

The Sunday open session ($10) is unjudged and open to all levels, though the atmosphere leans experienced.
