Step Into the Spotlight: Bloomingdale's Premier Tap Training

Performing Arts

Where rhythm meets runway, and every step tells a story. Discover the program redefining elegance in motion.

More Than Steps. It's a Statement.

The fusion of high fashion and percussive dance begins here, in our mirrored studio overlooking the city.

You hear it before you see it—the crisp, clean syncopation of metal on maple, a rhythm that speaks of both tradition and rebellion. This is not the tap of bygone eras, preserved in black-and-white films. This is Bloomingdale's Premier Tap Training: a program meticulously crafted for the modern individual who sees movement as an extension of personal style.

Forget everything you think you know about tap dance. We've moved beyond the chorus line. Here, tap is deconstructed as a language of rhythm, a kinetic form of self-expression that shares a profound synergy with the world of high fashion. It’s about posture, precision, and the powerful confidence that comes from commanding a room with nothing but the sounds you create with your feet.

"Tap is the art of wearing your rhythm. At Bloomingdale's, we don't just teach you the steps; we help you find the beat of your own aesthetic."

Our curriculum is built on a unique philosophy: that the discipline of tap cultivates an unparalleled awareness of line, timing, and presence—qualities that define both a captivating performer and a style icon. Under the guidance of master choreographers who have graced Broadway stages and fashion week runways, you'll learn to listen to the music within the silence and speak through the percussive poetry of your movement.

The Program Architecture

Designed for all levels—from the curious beginner to the seasoned dancer seeking refinement—our program is structured in immersive tiers. You begin with ‘Fundamentals of Rhythm & Stance’, where the focus is on weight transfer, clarity of sound, and the foundational vocabulary of taps. This evolves into ‘Musicality & Improvisation’, where you learn to converse with jazz standards and contemporary beats, developing your unique rhythmic voice.

The Studio

Our dedicated space features sprung Harlequin floors for optimal sound and joint protection, floor-to-ceiling mirrors for precise alignment, and an ambiance that blends the energy of a Broadway studio with the sophistication of a Bloomingdale's showroom.

The Attire

Movement requires both function and form. Participants receive guidance on selecting tap shoes that become an instrument, and movementwear that allows for full expression while embodying a sleek, minimalist aesthetic. Think less rehearsal gear, more curated performance look.

The Outcome

Beyond mastering time steps and pullbacks, you'll cultivate a performer's poise. You'll carry the rhythm, discipline, and confident carriage learned in the studio into every boardroom, social gathering, and personal moment.

The culmination of each session is not a recital, but an ‘Rhythm Presentation’—an intimate, stylish event where participants perform for a select audience. It’s an experience that captures the essence of the program: personal transformation presented with elegance and art.
