Pro-Kremlin Ballet Dancer's Performance Canceled In Slovenia

In a move seen as a rebuke to Russia's increasingly aggressive actions in Ukraine, the Slovenian government has canceled a planned performance by a pro-Kremlin ballet dancer in the country's capital, Ljubljana.

The dancer, Natalia Osipova, is a former principal soloist with the Bolshoi Ballet and has been a vocal supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She was scheduled to perform with the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Company on June 10 and 11.

However, following a review of the situation, the Slovenian government decided to cancel the performance, citing concerns over Osipova's perceived political affiliations and the potential impact on Slovenia's relations with Ukraine.

"This decision was made in light of the current situation in Ukraine and the need to maintain good relations with our Ukrainian friends," said Slovenian Culture Minister, Dejan Židan. "We cannot allow our cultural institutions to be used as a platform for propaganda or to promote political agendas that are not in line with our values and principles."

Osipova's performance was widely criticized by Slovenian artists and intellectuals, who accused her of using her platform to promote Russian aggression in Ukraine. The cancellation of her performance has been hailed as a victory for those who oppose Russia's actions in Ukraine.

The move is seen as a significant blow to Russia's cultural diplomacy efforts, which have been increasingly used to promote Moscow's political agenda around the world. In recent years, Russian artists and performers have been used to promote pro-Kremlin views and to try to undermine Western sanctions against Russia.

The cancellation of Osipova's performance is a clear indication that Slovenia will not tolerate the use of its cultural institutions to promote political agendas that are not in line with its values and principles. It is a strong message to Russia and its supporters that Slovenia will stand in solidarity with Ukraine and will not be swayed by Moscow's attempts to divide the West.
